4 March 1938 Dover Express - Garage in Strond Street - The Surveyor reported that a building notice and plans had been received from Mr F. G. Hayward for the erection of a garage on land adjoining the Pavilion Hotel, Strond Street, for the Dover Harbour Board, which would include tow w,c's and provision for accommodation for washing cars. So far as the building bye-laws were concerned the Council has no option but to approve, but as it was the intension to have a petroleum spirit store it might be necessary to consider the matter from the traffic facilities at this point which would be referred to the Town Clerk and Chief Constable. The Surveyors suggestion was approved.
3 June 1938 Dover Express - Dockside Garage - Near the site of the demolished Customs House, which stood on the quay of that name since 1804, a garage and petrol serving station has been erected by the Harbour Board, who have leased it to Messers Tapleys, of Dover. It is close to the entrance of the Ferry Dock. Between the garage and the warehouse on the right is the site of the old Customs House.
